01. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

One of the most famous poem in the English literature, I wandered lonely as a Cloud, was composed by William Wordsworth, two years after he saw the daffodils while walking along the shore of Ullswater with his sister, Dorothy.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
The thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In sich a jocund company:
I gazed–and gazed–but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
The flash upon that inward wye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

02. The Solitary Reaper

The Solitary Reaper by William Wordsworth was inspired by a visit to Strathyre in Scotland, with his sister Dorothy in 1803, and one of his best-known works.

As if her song could have no ending;
I saw her singing at her work,
And o’er the sickle bending;

03. The World Is Too Much With Us

It is a beauteous evening, calm and free is a sonnet by William Wordsworth written at Calais in August 1802. This poem is thought to have originated from a real life moment of Wordsworth, when he walked on the beach with the daughter he had not known for a decade.

Earth has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by

Ships, towers, domes, theatres, and temples lie

Up! up! my Friend, and quit your books;

Why all this toil and trouble?

Wordsworth began writing poetry as a young boy in school, and before graduating from college, he went on a walking tour of Europe, which deepened his love for nature and his sympathy for the common man. William Wordsworth was a leading poet in the Romantic movement during the 19th century, produced some of the greatest English poems which embraced the beauty of nature. William Wordsworth was named Poet Laureate of England in 1843, died at home at Rydal Mount from on 23 April 1850.
